Traces
Site-specific commission by Camille Hoffman. Blending American and Filipino landscapes, to explore belonging, ancestry, mixed heritage, and our connection to land. “Traces”, an immersive installation that combines salt sourced from Utah, the Philippines, and Mexico, with watercolor and photographic vinyl created in partnership with Andre Taylor, documenting the process of creation and destruction. Through a critical investigation of landscape painting, empire, and ancestral memory, Hoffman reimagines Emigration Canyon in the Salt Lake Valley, as a site of layered memory—shaped by ancient seas, border-making, erosion, connection, and renewal.
